Getting Around Cairns

If you're visiting Cairns you will most likely need the services of a car rental company while you traverse Cairns, Palm Cove, Port Douglas, and all the way up to Daintree. Or perhaps you would rather head south down to the Whitsundays or even Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne?

Live in Cairns!

Cairns is an incredibly livable city and many people come here to holiday but end up searching for real estate and making their Cairns stay a little more permanent. Port Douglas is equally attractive -- some say more so -- and appeals to those looking to retire.

Port Douglas

A mere hour's drive north of Cairns; Port Douglas' popularity moves from strength to strength as more holidaymakers find the diverse array of apartments, holiday house retreats, and resort style accommodation to suit every need and budget.

Daintree

Travel a little further north and one is plunged deep into the heart of Tropical North Queensland's rainforest. The secluded Daintree Village is your hub to all manner of Daintree accommodation and villas.

An abundance of tours are available of the region and no matter how you wish to wander about, a transport type is available for you. Be it 4wd tours, birdwatching tours, helicopter tours or hiking; Cairns is your touring hub. Explore exotic places like the Gulf Savannah, Cobbold Gorge, Daintree, and Undara.

Not to mention the Great Barrier Reef...

Mothers Day gift ideas

Two Cairns-based websites have great ideas for Mothers Day, depending on what sort of mum you have. Glass Temptations offers gold-plated glass figurines in a host of animals and objects, as well as the usual roses and hearts. Crocodile Country sells Australiana souvenirs such as crocodile leather products, but also features some lovely exotic leather goods such as handbags and purses made out of ostrich, stingray, and parrotfish.

Pigeon Toilets

Google's PigeonRankTM algorithm may be an April Fool's, but Japan's largest toilet manufacturer certainly isn't kidding us around with features such as adjustable temperatures for the water-wash function, fake flushing sound, a blow dryer, heated seat, automatic seat lifter (male and female,) and of course.. a remote control.

You won't have to worry about weird waste disposal units if you stay in one of Far North Queensland's resorts, however.
Almanacs and Accommodation

If you're after vast tomes of information on the Cairns region there are several resources that are sure to keep you occupied for hours. Charles Sturt University has maintained a comprehensive guide to web servers and sites in Queensland since 1995 and similarly, an almanac for Far North Queensland.

Staying in Cairns? An abundance of accommodation is at your fingertips -- select from resorts, hotels, motels, apartments, and bed and breakfast accommodation to name a few.
